The month of March in the Philippines is declared as fire prevention month. The month long celebration aims to increase public awareness on ways of preventing fires and saving lives. I was so fortunate that I got invited to meet and greet the “hearts and brains” of TxTFire Philippines last Tuesday – May 8, 2012 at Cafe Mezzanine in Ongpin.
TxTFire Philippines, founded by Mr. Gerry Chua, a non profit foundation which will hold its 1st TxTFire Run dubbed as Takbo Laban Sa Sunog at the SM Mall of Asia grounds on May 27, 2012 at 4am.
In line with the celebration of its 100th year anniversary, EBT100 joins effort with TxTFire Philippines for this FUN RUN FOR A CAUSE. This event aims to raise awareness in fire safety and also raise funds for the deployment of several In Case of Emergency Box (Ice Box) to public hospitals and institutions all over Metro Manila.
What is Ice Box? The Icebox is a fire alarm equipment which uses SMS to transmit fire alarm directly to our Txtfire Control Center. This will expedite the responses of fire trucks in case the need arises.
Takbo Laban Sa Sunog event is expected to gather about 5,000 runners from different community in Metro Manila and nearby communities, schools government agencies hospitals as well as sports enthusiasts, athletes and people from all walks of life. A group category will be featuring company, school, community, etc.

RFID system will also be used throughout the event to ensure that the official time of each runners will be recorded.
Winners from different event category male and female will be receiving medals and gift packs. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 runners’ group, company, etc. with more than 25 entries. Special award will also be given to fire volunteer group with the biggest number of entries.
Registration officially starts on April 8, 2012 in all Eng Bee Tin Hopia stores in Metro Manila and Runners’ Circle in Aloha Hotel, Quirino Ave., Malate Manila. Forms are also available for downloading at the TxTFire Phils. Foundation Inc. website – www.txtfire.net.
A registration fee will be as follows:
- 3K – Php300.00
- 5K – Php400.00
- 10K – Php500.00
